Tastes and smells horrible, ground texture isn't normal either. August 24, 2008 Brian M. Vann (Ann Arbor, Michigan) If you want cheap coffee and don't care how it tastes or smells, buy this. If you want it to actually have a pleasant taste and aroma, move on to something a little more expensive. Honestly, I can't believe how positive the other reviews for this have been. VERY misleading! To be more clear, when I opened the first bag up and took a good smell, I thought it smelled like a mix between brewed coffee that has sat on the pot WAY too long, and . . . manure. Now at least the next person who reads these reviews has a chance of avoiding this cheap but nasty coffee!
Good coffee August 11, 2008 WayupNorth (Phillips, WI) This is good coffee. I have always liked all of Mr. Coffee brands. It's a step above the canned varieties from the grocery store.
good for inexpensive coffee August 8, 2008 Cory Bebko This is good coffee if you are looking for inexpensive but drinkable whole bean coffee.
mr coffe whole bean coffe August 8, 2008 ginna bedingfield (crooked river ranch, oregon) for the value, this is a very good deal. i like my coffee rich, so i do add a couple extra scoops for the pot and it's pretty good. i think i paid around $25 at the time for the six pack, so it's only a little over $4 a bag. if you like the same flavor day after day, this is the way to go! enjoy!
Makes a very nice cuppa! July 27, 2008 AS Atwood (Heflin, AL) I took a chance on this coffee when there was an Amazon grocery sale available. I honestly did not expect much. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is actually quite good coffee. We grind it fresh in a burr grinder just before use with settings appropriate to what we are about to brew. This coffee works well (with the appropriate grind) in not only a drip machine and a french press, but gives a very decent crema in espresso shots pulled from a Gaggia Coffee. Is this the best bag O' beans I've ever had? No, it isn't. But on sale, it was less than 4 bucks a pound which is about one tenth the cost of the best coffee beans I've ever had. Where I'm from, that makes this coffee a deal. I prefer dark roast and these beans are pleasingly dark without being over-roasted to the point of being oily, burnt or bitter. They also work well ground in combination with other less darkly roasted beans to give a depth of flavor that goes well with the fuller body available from the lighter roasted beans. I have no problem recommending that anyone who enjoys a dark roasted coffee give these beans a try. The price is right and the end result is quite good. I think most people will be as pleasantly surprised by the end result as I was. Just be sure to grind fresh only what you need and store the opened beans well. On edit: A quick note about Amazon's star rating system... I wish there was a way to rate separately for things like value. On a value basis, this coffee is definitely five star. On a flavor basis, it is better than the four stars I gave it but there is no way to give it four and a half and five stars seems as if it ought to be reserved for something really special. What I am saying is don't let the lack of that fifth star in my rating discourage you from trying this coffee. It really is quite good.
